January is a great month to visit Cancun: the weather is warm, ranging from 54º F to 84º F with little to no rain, and typically cool waters. There are plenty of post-holidays tourists, but not as much as in December. Still, there are bound to be crowds so, if you are not annoyed by them, by all means, January is a great month to visit Cancun.

The biggest holiday in January is “Día de Reyes”, which is celebrated on January 6th, and it’s when Catholic families commemorate the Three Wise Men with gifts for the kids and the “Rosca de Reyes”, a traditional pastry shaped like a big donut with glazed fruits.

February is one of the best months to visit Cancun! The weather in February is nice: Not only are the days warmer and sunnier with cooler evenings, with temperatures that range from 70º F to 95º F, but also, the crowds from both the holidays and the upcoming Spring Break are nowhere to be found. The water is perfect for activities such as scuba diving. Valentine’s Day is another great reason to have a romantic escapade to Cancun; also, there is the “Carnaval”: a week-long celebration leading up to Ash Wednesday with live music, food, parades, and lots of fun!

Cancun in March sees the start of Spring Break, which in turn means: a reason to party! Cancun is home of some of the largest parties in the world during Spring Break, such as Inception Music Festival which lasts an entire month. So, as you can imagine, hordes of college kids come to enjoy the festivities and the beaches.

If you prefer something more grown-up, the Wine and Food Festival is held during March, with a five-day celebration that has the best chefs, winemakers, and so much more.

April is a fantastic month to visit Cancun: it’s the beginning of shoulder season, which means less crowds and tourists, so that the prices start to go down, making it a fantastic time to get a good rate on your accommodation and flights.

The average temperature ranges from 71º F to 87 º F
, offering the best weather of the year, no strings attached. The water is warm and delightful, and it is the perfect time to hit the beaches and soak up the sun. There is also very little chance of rain, so you can visit attractions with little to no humidity to explore at your leisure.

April also celebrates Cancun’s Anniversary, with festivities, parades, exhibits, live shows, and so much more, so the festive air is still felt with fewer crowds!

The temperature in May is near to perfection, much like in April; making it the perfect time to spot some of the wildlife that comes out to mate during Spring!

At the end of the month, nesting sea turtles begin to appear on the beach and whale sharks start their migration. If you want to observe these creatures in their natural habitats, you only need to book a snorkeling or diving excursion, and your chances to spot one of these majestic creatures will be more than high.

During May, there is also Cancun Jump-off: A four-day festival with music, beach parties, and fun activities for all!

The temperature in June begins to shift, but since we are talking about Cancun, it’s not like it’s going to get super cold or rainy. The temperatures still oscillate from 72º F to 88º F. However, June is the start of the rainy season, with a 50% chance of showers and rain each day. However, as we mentioned earlier, most showers occur at noon, and they last a few hours at best.

During June, the water is still great for swimming, and the seaside breezes are perfect since it is still hot outside. Also, the whale sharks are amidst their migration, so chances of an encounter increase during this time.

July gifts us with one very special event in Cancun: the birth of baby turtles! July is the time of the year in which the baby sea turtles hatch and return to the ocean, making a beautiful natural spectacle. If you love wildlife, it’s a must see; of course, from a distance and with the respect these beautiful creatures, and all animals, deserve.

Since July is low season, you will certainly find many amazing deals on flights and on your stay as well; just be warned, you might find some rain and humidity, since it is peak hurricane season.

August brings a very slight change in the weather, with some cloudy days and temperatures from 77º F to 94º. Still, it is hot and humid, which makes it one of the best seasons if you are looking for amazing deals, since it is most likely that you will find no crowds. A perfect time to relax, enjoy days by the pool, and visit the beautiful cenotes!

As temperature starts to cool off in September, it is the last chance to spot whale sharks in the area, because by the end of the month, they will be gone for the year. September is also the rainiest month of the year, so you will certainly find amazing deals, and less crowds than in any other month.

In the middle of September, though, Mexico celebrates its Independence Day, which means: Amazing food, live mariachi bands, parties, and fireworks, as well as the traditional “Grito de Independencia” in which the local authorities proclaim independence as it was originally done so the night of September, 1810.

During September, if the weather allows, you can catch the Autumn Equinox at Chichen Itzá. Just like in Spring, the shadow of the feathered serpent Kukulkán descends from the sky at the side of the largest pyramid.

October is an amazing month to visit Cancun at great prices. The hurricane season is over, with sporadic rain showers, mostly sunny skies, and temperatures that range from 75º F to 90º F.

There are many festivities, including Halloween parties! If you are in a calmer mood, the Cancun Jazz Festival is a great option: It runs for four days with many live concerts that showcase great performances and music.

The weather is nicer during November, with temperatures from 72º F to 85º F and mostly sunny days that offer perfect water conditions to snorkel, swim, or dive. The weather is also great for hiking and trekking through the Mayan archaeological sites, since humidity is lower than during summer.

The main event is the Day of the Dead, or “Día de Muertos”. Celebrated in November 1st and 2nd, “Día de Muertos” is a major festivity in Mexico. Families honor their dead with colorful “ofrendas”, or altars, that showcase food and many of the dead’s interests while living, as well as flowers, and colored paper decorations. There are plenty of festivities, and you can visit Xcaret Park for their Day of the Dead festival. If you like colorful and traditional celebrations, make sure to experience Cancun in November.

December is peak season in Cancun, since many tourists come searching for a warmer climate. If you want to visit Cancun during December, it is highly advised that you plan in advance, since rates tend to skyrocket, especially around Christmas.

With temperatures that range from 75º F, to 85º F, it makes sense that many tourists seek the soft breeze, beaches, and sunny skies of Cancun in December.
